1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²). 9.2 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.78% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 737 people, 311 households, and 198 families residing in the city. The population density is 79.9/km² (207.2/mi²). There are 397 housing units at an average density of 43.1/km² (111.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.01% White, 4.34% African American, 0.68% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.66% from other races, and 1.76% from two or more races. 8.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 311 households out of which 25.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.8% are married couples living together, 15.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% are non-families. 29.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.84. In the city the population is spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
