Eldorado is a city located in Schleicher County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,951. It is the county seat of Schleicher County6.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,951 people, 712 households, and 513 families residing in the city. The population density is 541.9/km² (1,407.5/mi²). There are 838 housing units at an average density of 232.8/km² (604.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 70.63% White, 2.15% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 24.24% from other races, and 2.56% from two or more races. 53.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 712 households out of which 37.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.26. In the city the population is spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $27,682, and the median income for a family is $30,781. Males have a median income of $26,172 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,994. 26.1% of the population and 20.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 35.6% are under the age of 18 and 26.2% are 65 or older.
