East Lampeter Township is a township located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the population of the township is 13,556.

Geography

\nAccording to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 51.8 km² (20.0 mi²). 51.7 km² (20.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.30% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 13,556 people, 5,342 households, and 3,739 families residing in the township. The population density is 262.4/km² (679.5/mi²). There are 5,611 housing units at an average density of 108.6/km² (281.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 92.13% White, 2.11% African American, 0.07% Native American, 2.72% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.85% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 3.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,342 households out of which 30.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% are married couples living together, 7.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.05. In the township the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.0 males. The median income for a household in the township is $46,179, and the median income for a family is $54,494. Males have a median income of $36,718 versus $25,578 for females. The per capita income for the township is $22,744. 6.5% of the population and 4.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.8% are under the age of 18 and 6.0% are 65 or older.
