Durand is a city located in Pepin County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,968.

Geography

\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.43% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,968 people, 829 households, and 509 families residing in the city. The population density is 474.9/km² (1,229.4/mi²). There are 876 housing units at an average density of 211.4 persons/km² (547.3 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.93% White, 0.15% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 0.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 829 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 38.5% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.99. In the city the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males.
