The Dobermann or Doberman pinscher is a breed of domestic dog.

It is commonly used as a guard dog, watch dog and police dog.

Dobermanns were first bred in Germany around 1890 by Louis Dobermann. He was a tax collector and needed a protection dog to guard him. Later Otto Goeller and Philip Gruening continued the cultivation of the breed.

The breed used dogs from the Pinscher, the Rottweiler, the Thuringian Shepherd Dog, the black Greyhound, the Great Dane, the Weimaraner, and the German Shorthaired Pointer.
