ABC is known for defending the spanish monarchy, and was seized in 1936 by Frente Popular (Popular Front) when the Spanish Civil War started. During the civil war ABC published two different version, one from each ideological side. When the war was over, ABC in Madrid was given back to it's legitimate owners and became once again the largest newspaper in Spain.
Today, ABC is the third largest newspaper in Spain, and the oldest newspaper in Madrid.
