Dhanushkodi

Dhanuskodi, at the time the closest point on the Indian coast to Sri Lanka, was washed away in 1964 in a devastating cyclone. Also destroyed was the rail bridge connecting the town to the mainland, and a trainload of passengers was washed into the sea.
