Dennis Archer

Dennis Wayne Archer is the president of the American Bar Association, and is the first African American to hold this office. Prior to his election, Archer served as a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court and as mayor of Detroit, Michigan (1994 - 2001).

Archer earned his B.S. in Education from Western Michigan University and taught learning disabled children in Detroit Public Schools from 1965 - 1970. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the Detroit College of Law in 1970.
