The racial makeup of the county is 72.47% White, 8.66% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 16.56% from other races, and 1.77% from two or more races. 48.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,726 households out of which 35.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.40% are married couples living together, 11.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.90% are non-families. 23.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.20.
