Dardanelle is a city located in Yell County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,228.

census2 of 2000, there are 4,228 people, 1,605 households, and 1,078 families residing in the city. The population density is 533.5/km² (1,382.0/mi²). There are 1,747 housing units at an average density of 220.4/km² (571.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 75.24% White, 4.64% Black or African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 16.65% from other races, and 2.41% from two or more races. 21.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,605 households out of which 32.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% are married couples living together, 14.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.12. In the city the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.6 males. The median income for a household in the city is $25,727, and the median income for a family is $30,457. Males have a median income of $21,138 versus $17,370 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,583. 19.6% of the population and 14.9% of families are below the poverty line.
