The Darabuka (also Darbuka, Doumbek, Dumbeck or Doumbeck) is an hour-glass shaped drum found throughout the Arab world. The Darabuka is is held under one arm and played with the fingertips. The Darabuka is often paired with the ud, violin, and qanun in a takht. A darabuka can be made from clay, metal, or wood with a plastic, fish, or goat skin head.

Some players move their fists in and out of the bell to alter the tone.
