Continental Blockade

The Continental Blockade was a blocking of European ports for trade with England. It was declared by Napoleon in 1806. The blockade had not the intended result of breaking English power but instead mad a shortage of colonial products on the continent. One of these was sugar from sugarcane. As a result the sugar beet spread over Europe as a new resource of sugar.
