Collinsville is a town located in Cherokee County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,644.

Geography

\nCollinsville is located at 34°15'55.555" North, 85°51'41.483" West (34.265432, -85.861523). According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²). 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census2 of 2000, there are 1,644 people, 565 households, and 367 families residing in the town. The population density is 179.8/km² (465.8/mi²). There are 629 housing units at an average density of 68.8/km² (178.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 63.32% White, 16.18% Black or African American, 1.52% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 13.99% from other races, and 4.14% from two or more races. 23.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 565 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.4% are married couples living together, 18.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.20. In the town the population is spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.4 males. The median income for a household in the town is $21,964, and the median income for a family is $27,500. Males have a median income of $20,114 versus $16,635 for females.
