Clarington, Ohio

Clarington is a village on the edge of the Ohio River located in Monroe County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 444.


Clarington is located at 39°46'22" North, 80°52'5" West (39.772655, -80.868008)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²). 2.9 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.11% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 444 people, 182 households, and 125 families residing in the village. The population density is 153.1/km² (397.3/mi²). There are 209 housing units at an average density of 72.0/km² (187.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 99.10% White, 0.68% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 0.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 182 households out of which 28.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the village the population is spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 89.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $28,281, and the median income for a family is $31,875. Males have a median income of $30,750 versus $20,938 for females. The per capita income for the village is $13,730. 25.2% of the population and 21.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 31.1% are under the age of 18 and 15.0% are 65 or older.
