Citronelle is a city located in Mobile County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 3,659.

census2 of 2000, there are 3,659 people, 1,318 households, and 1,009 families residing in the city. The population density is 57.9/km² (149.9/mi²). There are 1,441 housing units at an average density of 22.8/km² (59.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 76.96% White, 18.61% Black or African American, 2.76% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 0.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,318 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% are married couples living together, 15.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.4% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.19. In the city the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $31,739, and the median income for a family is $39,922. Males have a median income of $32,200 versus $19,702 for females.
