Church of Christ (Cutlerite)

The Church of Christ (Cutlerite), is a Latter Day Saint church headquartered in Independence, Missouri. The official name of the church is The Church of Christ, but they are known informally as Cutlerites after its "reorganizer" Alpheus Cutler.

History

Alpheus Cutler was an early Mormon missionary who declined to follow Brigham Young with the majority of Mormons to Utah. While Brigham Young's group was at Winter Quarters, Nebraska, Cutler broke from their ranks and settled in Manti, Iowa. On September 19, 1853, Cutler "re-organized" The Church of Jesus Christ on September 19, 1853.

Shortly before Cutler's death on August 10, 1864, the church moved to Clitherall, Minnesota, where they established a communist settlement. In 1928, the group moved to Independence, Missouri, where they built their present headquarters.

The church still practices communism, which the refer to as the "Order of Enoch". See Law of consecration.
