Castleton-on-Hudson is a village located in Rensselaer County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,619.

census of 2000, there are 1,619 people, 615 households, and 399 families residing in the village. The population density is 781.4/km² (2,025.5/mi²). There are 654 housing units at an average density of 315.6/km² (818.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.79% White, 1.36% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.93% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 1.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 615 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.0% are married couples living together, 15.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% are non-families. 29.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.06. In the village the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 83.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 73.0 males. The median income for a household in the village is $44,141, and the median income for a family is $51,957. Males have a median income of $36,019 versus $26,976 for females.
