Carson City is a city located in Montcalm County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,190.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.37% is water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,190 people, 496 households, and 312 families residing in the city. The population density is 647.1/km² (1,670.8/mi²). There are 532 housing units at an average density of 289.3/km² (746.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.04% White, 0.50% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.10% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 4.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 496 households out of which 32.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.6% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 32.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 3.01. In the city the population is spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 82.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.3 males. The median income for a household in the city is $32,500, and the median income for a family is $41,477. Males have a median income of $31,442 versus $28,472 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,178. 15.2% of the population and 11.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.2% are under the age of 18 and 12.9% are 65 or older.
