Buckhead, Georgia

Buckhead is a town located in Morgan County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 205.

Buckhead is also the name of an upscale northern section within the city of Atlanta, sometimes called Buckhead Village to differentiate it. The two names are a coincidence and are not related.


Buckhead is located at 33°34'5" North, 83°21'45" West (33.568012, -83.362443)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 205 people, 68 households, and 55 families residing in the town. The population density is 98.9/km² (257.5/mi²). There are 81 housing units at an average density of 39.1/km² (101.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 65.37% White, 29.27% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.37% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 2.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 68 households out of which 41.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.6% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% are non-families. 14.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.01 and the average family size is 3.36.

In the town the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 7.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 109.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $35,208, and the median income for a family is $36,458. Males have a median income of $30,179 versus $19,432 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,253. 22.8% of the population and 18.4% of families are below the poverty line.
