Bruno Schulz

Bruno Schulz (1892-1942) was a Polish writer and painter of Jewish origin who is widely considered to be one of the greatest Polish prose stylist of the 20th century.

Schulz was born in Drohobycz (now Drogobych), (Galicja) and studied architecture at Lvov University and Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1938, he was awarded the Golden Laurel of the Polish Academy of Literature. Between 1939 and 1941 he lived in Soviet-occupied territory. He was shot dead by a German officer in the ghetto of Drohobycz in 1942.
