Bodega Bay is a town located in Sonoma County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,423.

The Alfred Hitchcock-directed film, The Birds, was set for the most part in Bodega Bay.


Bodega Bay is located at 38°19'28" North, 123°2'19" West (38.324356, -123.038591)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 21.7 km² (8.4 mi²). 21.7 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,423 people, 669 households, and 432 families residing in the town. The population density is 65.6/km² (169.7/mi²). There are 1,144 housing units at an average density of 52.7/km² (136.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 85.52% White, 0.35% African American, 1.55% Native American, 1.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 9.07% from other races, and 2.18% from two or more races. 15.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 669 households out of which 14.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 3.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% are non-families. 27.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.11 and the average family size is 2.47.
