Bluefield is a town located in Tazewell County, Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,078.

census of 2000, there are 5,078 people, 2,134 households, and 1,423 families residing in the town. The population density is 258.7/km² (669.9/mi²). There are 2,349 housing units at an average density of 119.7/km² (309.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 92.30% White, 4.86% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.42% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,134 households out of which 21.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 30.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.77. In the town the population is spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 86.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $32,157, and the median income for a family is $44,000. Males have a median income of $34,167 versus $18,875 for females.
