Blue Hill is a town located in Hancock County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,390.

Geography

\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 224.5 km² (86.7 mi²). 162.0 km² (62.5 mi²) of it is land and 62.5 km² (24.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 27.84% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 2,390 people, 1,074 households, and 681 families residing in the town. The population density is 14.8/km² (38.2/mi²). There are 1,486 housing units at an average density of 9.2/km² (23.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.87% White, 0.38% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 0.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,074 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 30.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.73. In the town the population is spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 30.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.8 males. The median income for a household in the town is $31,484, and the median income for a family is $41,688. Males have a median income of $28,200 versus $23,616 for females.
