Blackfriars station

Blackfriars station is a London Underground and mainline station in the City of London, England, on the north bank of the River Thames, and near the Blackfriars Bridge. Mainline services, operated by Thameslink and South Eastern Trains, run north and south from it.

The tube station is on the Circle and District lines, between Temple and Mansion House. It also has connections to the riverboat system. It is in zone 1.

History

The original Blackfriars station was opened in 1864, on the south bank of the River Thames. It closed in 1886 after the opening of Blackfriars Bridge, and a new station, then called St Paul's opened on the north bank. It was renamed to Blackfriars station in 1937.

Northbound services used to go to Holborn Viaduct station, but now go to City Thameslink station.
