BitchX

BitchX is a IRC client program. It is written in C, and works in a text window or using the GTK toolkit (though it is not as graphically neat as XChat, the other major GTK+ IRC client). It works on most Unix-like operating systems, and is available under an open source license. It is originally based on ircII

Whilst it is full-featured and powerful, the program is unpopular with some IRC users who find its propensity to add profanity to automatically-generated channel messages sent out to other users rude and unnecessary. Others, particularly the teenagers who make up a significant fraction of the IRC-using community, probably regard this as a desirable feature.
