Bernard Sumner

Bernard Sumner (born Bernard Dicken January 4, 1956 in Manchester, England) was the guitarist and keyboardist for Joy Division, and after the May 1980 suicide of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, Sumner formed New Order with the surviving members.

Although bandmates Peter Hook and Stephen Morris also contributed lead vocals, Sumner emerged reluctantly as the band's permanent lead vocalist and lyricist.

In 1989, Sumner joined up with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr on their Electronic project.

While a member of Joy Division, Sumner also performed under the names Bernard Albrecht and '\Bernard Dicken'.
