Benicia is a city located in Solano County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,865. The city is in the Bay Area near San Francisco, California and Vallejo, California.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 40.4 km² (15.6 mi²). 33.4 km² (12.9 mi²) of it is land and 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.31% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 26,865 people, 10,328 households, and 7,239 families residing in the city. The population density is 804.1/km² (2,082.6/mi²). There are 10,547 housing units at an average density of 315.7/km² (817.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 78.89% White, 4.82% African American, 0.60% Native American, 7.56% Asian, 0.29% Pacific Islander, 2.65% from other races, and 5.18% from two or more races. 9.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 10,328 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.10. In the city the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $67,617, and the median income for a family is $77,974. Males have a median income of $59,628 versus $39,893 for females.
