Bartlesville is a city located in Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 34,748. It is the county seat of Washington County6.

Geography

Bartlesville is located at 36°44'50" North, 95°57'34" West (36.747193, -95.959498)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 54.7 km² (21.1 mi²). 54.7 km² (21.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 34,748 people, 14,565 households, and 9,831 families residing in the city. The population density is 635.5/km² (1,646.4/mi²). There are 16,091 housing units at an average density of 294.3/km² (762.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 82.09% White, 3.20% African American, 7.18% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.02% from other races, and 5.54% from two or more races. 3.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,565 households out of which 30.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $35,827, and the median income for a family is $44,617. Males have a median income of $35,699 versus $23,071 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,195. 12.7% of the population and 9.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.8% are under the age of 18 and 7.9% are 65 or older.

Bartlesville is one of two places in Oklahoma where a Lenape tribe lives, the other being Anadarko.

Bartlesville is home to the Price Tower, the only skyscraper designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that was actually built.
