Bamberg is a town located in Bamberg County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,733. It is the county seat of Bamberg County6.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 3,733 people, 1,383 households, and 923 families residing in the town. The population density is 408.3/km² (1,058.1/mi²). There are 1,537 housing units at an average density of 168.1/km² (435.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 45.22% White, 53.58% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,383 households out of which 31.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.2% are married couples living together, 25.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 30.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.03. In the town the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 12.6% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 82.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 74.8 males.
