Avon is a city located in Lorain County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 11,446.

census of 2000, there are 11,446 people, 4,088 households, and 3,143 families residing in the city. The population density is 211.8/km² (548.4/mi²). There are 4,291 housing units at an average density of 79.4/km² (205.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.02% White, 0.72% African American, 0.17% Native American, 1.03% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 1.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,088 households out of which 37.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.7% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% are non-families. 19.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.15. In the city the population is spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
