Ava is a city located in Douglas County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,021. It is the county seat of Douglas County6.

census of 2000, there are 3,021 people, 1,350 households, and 764 families residing in the city. The population density is 376.3/km² (973.0/mi²). There are 1,493 housing units at an average density of 186.0/km² (480.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.79% White, 0.13% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 1.69% from two or more races. 1.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,350 households out of which 27.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.4% are non-families. 39.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 23.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 79.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 73.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $22,331, and the median income for a family is $28,228. Males have a median income of $25,865 versus $16,324 for females.
