Aumsville, Oregon

Aumsville is a city located in Marion County, Oregon. It is situated on the site of the pioneer farm of Henry L. Turner, who named the settlement for his son-in-law, Amos M. Davis, more familiarly known as "Aumus", who had died on December 23, 1863. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,003.

Geography

Aumsville is located at 44°50'41" North, 122°52'17" West (44.844714, -122.871454)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,003 people, 961 households, and 803 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,467.7/km² (3,792.5/mi²). There are 1,024 housing units at an average density of 500.5/km² (1,293.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.75% White, 0.30% African American, 1.83% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 6.06% from other races, and 4.43% from two or more races. 11.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 961 households out of which 52.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% are married couples living together, 17.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.4% are non-families. 12.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.12 and the average family size is 3.37.

In the city the population is spread out with 36.4% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 17.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $40,704, and the median income for a family is $41,316. Males have a median income of $32,723 versus $24,514 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,262. 15.8% of the population and 13.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 23.7% are under the age of 18 and 11.1% are 65 or older.
