Atlantic Beach is a town located in Carteret County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,781.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.4 mi²). 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.32% water.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 1,781 people, 971 households, and 498 families residing in the town. The population density is 321.3/km² (831.0/mi²). There are 4,728 housing units at an average density of 853.0/km² (2,206.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.03% White, 0.62% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 971 households out of which 11.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.1% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 48.7% are non-families. 39.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.82 and the average family size is 2.33. In the town the population is spread out with 9.8% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 38.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 112.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 111.2 males.
