Arabi is a town located in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana on the East Bank of the Mississippi River, down river from New Orleans within the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 8,093.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²). 4.6 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 16.98% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 8,093 people, 3,474 households, and 2,247 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,775.4/km² (4,597.3/mi²). There are 3,688 housing units at an average density of 809.1/km² (2,095.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.89% White, 0.89% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 1.20% from two or more races. 5.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,474 households out of which 22.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% are non-families. 30.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.86. In the town the population is spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 27.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.3 males. The median income for a household in the town is $33,937, and the median income for a family is $42,526. Males have a median income of $32,146 versus $24,489 for females.
