Alcalde is a town located in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 377.

Demographics

census2 of 2000, there are 377 people, 121 households, and 99 families residing in the town. The population density is 285.4/km² (735.3/mi²). There are 138 housing units at an average density of 104.5/km² (269.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 37.40% White, 0.27% African American, 1.59% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 54.64% from other races, and 5.84% from two or more races. 89.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 121 households out of which 46.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% are married couples living together, 19.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.4% are non-families. 16.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.12 and the average family size is 3.39. In the town the population is spread out with 32.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 15.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $37,969, and the median income for a family is $38,250. Males have a median income of $31,375 versus $20,341 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,656. 12.6% of the population and 10.7% of families are below the poverty line.
