Abita Springs is a town located in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,957.

\nAbita Springs is located at 30°28'34" North, 90°2'6" West (30.476233, -90.035138)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²). 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


\nAs of the
census2 of 2000, there are 1,957 people, 757 households, and 550 families residing in the town. The population density is 183.0/km² (474.3/mi²). There are 813 housing units at an average density of 76.0/km² (197.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.30% White, 3.01% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 1.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 757 households out of which 37.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.07. In the town the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $39,923, and the median income for a family is $45,208. Males have a median income of $36,250 versus $27,368 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,998. 6.7% of the population and 4.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.4% are under the age of 18 and 11.6% are 65 or older.


The natural spring water of Abita Springs has long enjoyed a good reputation in the area, and Abita Springs Water is bottled and sold in volume, particularly to residents of
New Orleans. In the 1986 The Abita Brewing Company was established as a regional beer brewery, and in 1994 the added a brew pub & restaurant.
