AberMUD

AberMUD was the first popular MUD which college students began playing in the 1980s. It was written, mainly, by Alan Cox, also known as Anarchy, who had been a player on the original MUD at Essex University [1]. It is named after the [[University of Wales Aberystwyth|University of Aberystwyth, Wales]]. Several dozen AberMUDs remain in operation, but in 2002 they have few players.

Nearly all AberMUDs in operation today are not based on the latest release, Aber V, but on a descendant of AberMUD IV called Dirt, which was written by Alf and Nicknack.
